If you’re just getting started with indoor farming or have been doing it for a while, then you know that growing anything is tough, more so if you’re not green-thumbed.

Horticultural plants need a good environment to thrive, and if you’re planting them indoors, you can’t depend on the natural climate alone to create this environment. That said, the most important investment you can make for your agricultural venture is installing a reliable HVAC system.

At Home Comfort, Inc., we help farmers and agricultural business people like you to set up the best conditions for plants to thrive in indoor farms. Whether it’s a greenhouse, container farm, vertical farm, or vineyard, we’ve got you covered. We operate across Salem, OR, and surrounding areas. So, call us to discuss how to make your indoor garden the best it can be.

What Is Agricultural HVAC, and Why Do You Need it?

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. HVAC systems are responsible for regulating temperatures and air quality through air movement between the indoors and outdoors. With more farmers turning to the indoor farming technology industry due to the worsening climatic conditions, HVAC plays a critical role in controlling and maintaining these artificial farming environments.

 Just like a home or car HVAC system maintains a good atmosphere around you, an agricultural HVAC keeps air and temperature conditions favorable for plant growth regardless of how unfavorable the climate is outside.

So, why do you need to install an Agricultural HVAC?

  • It helps you control temperatures within your indoor farm;
  • It enables you to set the right humidity levels for your crops;
  • It gives you control over the ventilation conditions.

What Type of HVAC Systems Do You Need to Install in Your Indoor Farm?

HVAC systems, especially those designed for indoor farming facilities, can be downright intimidating. That’s because there are different types for different functions, and they come in all shapes and sizes. You will need all, or a combination of the various components of HVAC, to provide your plants with ideal climatic conditions for growth.

That said, here are the various components of indoor agriculture HVAC:

  • Commercial humidifiers
  • Commercial dehumidifiers
  • Controls
  • Heating and evaporative cooling system
  • Rooftop A/C units
  • Commercial exhaust fans
  • Co2 Burners
  • Carbon filters and scrubbers
  • Lighting systems
  • Ground-mounted air-rotation systems

Deciding when it’s time to repair or replace your commercial heating and cooling system can be difficult. As with any mechanical system, there are many factors to consider,

What Mistakes Should You Avoid When Installing an Agricultural HVAC System?

ne of the most common mistakes indoor farmers make when dealing with HVAC is underestimating the importance of installing a properly sized HVAC system. Instead, they tend to put together a quick HVAC system or buy whatever’s affordable from the nearest home improvement store.

The result? They don’t get what they expect in plant health and growth. That said, every farm’s needs are different, and conditions that may work well for one farm may not produce the same results for the other. You need a good HVAC system customized for your specific farm’s needs and your goals as a farmer.

The second costly mistake that farmers make regarding HVAC is overlooking the importance of using a qualified HVAC expert.

In a bid to save costs and get the farm up and running quickly, you may be tempted to do the installation yourself. But this move may cost you big time later, more so if you have little to no knowledge handling agricultural HVAC systems. It’s best to leave it in the hands of experts to avoid the risk of damaging your HVAC equipment and compromising your crop production.

For several years we have had numerous HVAC folks here to diagnosis and fix the problems with our aging Lennox HVAC system. No one except Home Comfort was able to actually fix it! Wish we had found them first (so much for internet searching...) The previous highly rated companies we called wanted to sell us a new system or charged us for time without actually diagnosing and fixing the existing system issue. Home Comfort's technician Dan had to come out a couple times to get to the root of the problem (recalled thermostat and bad motherboard) but he found and corrected the problems! The system now works perfectly for AC and heat. We will never call anyone else. Highly recommend this company!

They did a great job, very professional! On time, and enlarged my all of my intake duct to match the new unit. This was during the Covid pandemic, so supply and labor shortages caused the installation to be pushed out but they were able to get a unit that fit my needs and installed it when they said they would.
