Spring is just around the corner, and this usually means that it is time to start organizing closets, washing winter clothes, and cleaning all the major household items. We have prepared a list of important household items that need to be cleaned so that you will be prepared for the summer.

  1. Countertops

When possible wipe up countertops immediately after using them. To make future cleaning easier, consider looking into a countertop seal. For stains consider trying out a solution of ½ cup of ammonia in a gallon of water, and as with any cleaning solution, always test a small area first.

  2. Stainless Steel

If you want to keep your stainless steel items clean and bright, you can use a light mist of wax-based aerosol spray once a week but do not use it too much, because you will soak up the surface and make it greasy. Wipe it with a clean cloth, and do not use cleaners that contain bleach after you have applied the waxy layer.

  3. Air Duct Cleaning

If your HVAC has been working for quite some time and hasn’t been inspected recently, odors, dust and other contaminates can be circulating in your home. Keeping the air ducts clean will not only extend the life of your equipment but will also save you money and provide you with much cleaner air. After numerous requests, we have ordered specialized tools and certified our technicians to be able to provide these services, for those that are interested.

  4. Heat Pump Cleaning

If you operate your heat pump properly, you can save a lot on your energy bill. Avoid setting back the thermostat of the heat pump because it will cause the backup heating to come on, and running backup heating systems can get quite expensive. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and have a professional technician service your heat pumps every year.

  5. Air Filter Replacement

Regularly changing the air filter in your heating and cooling is essential for ensuring a long lifecycle. The air filter is responsible for keeping pollution and debris out of your HVAC system so that it can operate properly. The filters should generally be changed every three months, but you can always check the manufacturer. Buy the right filter for your HVAC, turn off the unit, remove the old filter, and slide in the new one.

  6. Pillows And Towels

Spring is the ideal time to wash your pillows, especially if they develop that nasty yellowish color. Put them in your washing machine and use a mixture of laundry detergent, bleach, powdered dishwasher detergent, and borax. Your pillows will look brand new, and you can do a similar thing with your towels by adding vinegar and baking soda to the washing machine. It will give them fluffiness and absorbency while cleaning the inside of your washing machine at the same time.

  7. Microwave

The microwave is one of the household items most prone to staining, and cleaning all that burnt food residue takes a lot of elbow grease, but we have a simple hack for you that will help you clean it much more easily. Just steam clean the microwave using lemon water and vinegar and then wipe it all off with a rag or sponge.

  8. Stove

A dirty oven may even be worse than the microwave but, do not worry, we have cleaning hacks for that as well. Use a bowl of water and a pot of ammonia to make the stove top cleaning much easier and get rid of all those greasy stains.

  9. Keyboard And Mouse

We don’t know if you were aware of the fact that your keyboard and your mouse are cesspools of bacteria and germs. So, give them a full clean, not just a gentle wipe down, and always keep some disinfectant wipes near your computer to remind yourself. Make this a regular habit.

  10. Carpet

If you want to keep your carpets clean, you can try taking your shoes off when you get in the house, but keep the socks on, because walking barefoot leaves various natural oils behind, which attract dirt. Vacuum often and use a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters and change them frequently because you will help keep the pollutants from getting back into the air.

We hope you will find this article helpful when organizing your spring cleaning. We have revealed some simple, yet effective hacks that we use all the time – they will make the cleaning much easier, and help you get your house in top condition for the summer.
